From Bob D, re: Total Loss Settlement: in the case of a loss, do not settle for "Blue Book" value. You don't have to. Blue Book takes the average of all motorcycles in the category throughout the country, from bikes that are in pristine California to bikes that are left out in the snow all winter in Michigan. In my last loss (1989, thank God), I cut ads from the Chronicle showing the used price for the same motorcycle in my area was MUCH higher than Blue Book. I submitted those ads to the adjuster, and he submitted them to the company. After all, if you're going to do the work for the adjuster, it just makes life easier for him and he sees himself as a good guy in your eyes. I got a big old fat check and went out and bought a brand new FZR600 that I had for 13 years.
Now, with the Internet, it's much easier to get comparative prices in your area. Go to autotrader.com and the website for your local newspaper.
